"INHABITANTS OF THE LAND" by Cecilia Robertson

Inhabitants of the Land: Solo Show

Show Dates: July 1-31, 2019

Artist’s Reception: Friday July 12, 2019 5-7pm

Cecilia Robertson’s new oil paintings, INHABITANTS OF THE LAND, will be shown at 7Arts Gallery July 1-31 with a reception on July 12 at the gallery. The paintings for this show stimulate us to ask, “Who lives here? Is anyone home?”. The land, beautiful in and of itself reveals evidence that it is also ‘home” to so many beings, companion inhabitants. Robertson’s current paintings reflect her reverence for the lyric beauty of the landscape while also giving us hints of warm-blooded life, creatures who came here, live here, visit here or were once here. The beauty of their lives enlarges the beauty of the land. Join Cecilia Robertson in celebrating the beauty of the home we share.

Robertson’s oil paintings have been collected internationally and and her skill recognized via multiple awards. She lives and works in Santa Fe. As a painter she invites people to participate in the universal experience of finding joy in the natural world.

" Uprooted" by Melinda Silver

Uprooted: Melinda Silver explores the dreams and realities of leaving home.

Opens on Friday August 2, with an artist reception 5-7pm

Show runs from August 2 - August 30, 2019

7 Arts Gallery 125 Lincoln Ave, Santa Fe, NM 87501

"Uprooted" is a painterly exploration of the act of leaving home, effectively begun at age 4 as the artist stared at Eulalie’s illustration of “My Bed is a Boat,” from Robert Louis Stevenson’s “A Child’s Garden of Verses.”  A young girl’s small world expands as she travels on clouds of imagination.  Contrast the immigrant experience - often a frantic flight to safety, with hopes of finding a new home in a strange country.  Silver abstracts these thoughts through a multi-layered, mixed-media experience.  Each layer, each dream, is destroyed or obscured as the painting travels forward.  There is both hope and terror in this process, figuratively mirroring the immigrant experience, requiring the artist to face and embrace uncertainty and change.  This series is dedicated to Silver’s grandparents, a few of the many whose own dreams and terrors took them traveling with uncertainty, fear, and hope to the United States of America.

20% of Proceeds from Silver’s sales during the month of August will go to support the Santa Fe Dreamers Project, http://www.santafedreamersproject.org/ , working to provide legal support and services to immigrants.

7 Arts Gallery will host Melinda Silver’s solo show UPROOTED with an opening reception Friday August 2, from 5-7pm. The show runs through August 30, 2019. 7 Arts Gallery is located 1/2 block from the Plaza at 125 Lincoln Avenue, Santa Fe, NM 87501. More of the artist’s artwork can be viewed at

"Buffalo and Buckskin" by Bekye Fargason

BUFFALO AND BUCKSKIN

New art series by Bekye Fargason opens on Friday, March 8, with an artist reception 5-7 pm. The show runs from March 2 through March 30, 2019.

Native American ceremonial dress and everyday objects have always held a fascination for Bekye Fargason. While she views her work as interpretations and not authentic representations, she sees these items as an enduring testament to spirituality and connectedness to the earth, her own included. “My trips out west as a child left me with a longing to live there, and every other destination, always felt like a detour on the way to my real home place.” Bekye Fargason arrived in Santa Fe via Laurel, Mississippi, New York City and New Orleans. Having found her true home in the west, she spends her time between Santa Fe and Golden, Colorado, finding her inspiration in the land and native cultures. Utilizing techniques she has practiced in her thirty six years of decorative painting, Bekye has developed a style and skill that has inspired her passion for fine art. Bekye creates canvases that are heavily textured, highly luminous and sensitive to changing light. Bekye’s decorative work appeared extensively in this year’s ShowHouse Santa Fe, including the stunning copper ceiling in the main living room. Her work has also appeared in the following national magazines: House Beautiful, Better Homes and Gardens, Southern Living, and Victoria. She has also been featured in local and regional publications including Santa Fean, Su Casa Magazine, New Orleans Magazine, New Orleans Homes and Lifestyles, Louisiana Life Magazine, St. Charles Avenue Magazine and The Gambit.

7 Arts Gallery will host Bekye Fargason’s exhibit, “Buffalo and Buckskin” with an opening reception Friday March 8, from 5-7pm. The show runs through to March 30, 2019. 7 Arts Gallery is located 1/2 block from the Plaza at 125 Lincoln Avenue, Santa Fe, NM. Artwork Within - A Solo Show by Mary Jo Hatch

Artwork Within - A Solo Show by Mary Jo Hatch

“Artwork Within”, a solo show for local fine art painter Mary Jo Hatch, will be hosted by 7Arts Gallery, 125 Lincoln Ave, Santa Fe, NM. It begins with an opening reception Friday, February 1, 2019 from 5-7pm and runs though February 28. “Artwork Within” will feature works in oil whose main subject matter is houseplants painted in both intimate interiors and garden settings.

Hatch has devoted her painting career thus far to communicating the spiritual and emotional lives of plants. Her efforts to do this began 30 years ago when, as a budding writer, several of her houseplants surrendered their lives to help her finish her first book. She was so touched by their sacrifice that, when she took up her brushes, she honored their memory by painting their souls. She has been enamored of painting the inner lives of plants ever since. Those who have commented on her work describe it as honest, playful and drenched in color.

Having moved to Santa Fe late last year, her palette is undergoing tremendous change and under the influence of local nature she now harbors an ambition to paint plein air. You will have the chance to see one or two lf her early plein air efforts at the show, which will be the first exhibition of Hatch’s work in Santa Fe

7Arts Gallery is located one block from the Plaza at 125 Lincoln Ave, Suite 110, Santa Fe, NM 87501. The show will continue through February 28, 2019.

For more information contact Mary Jo Hatch at 434-242-2266 or mjhatch@virginia.edu.

Photo Unrealism – Altered Female Reality

New Art Show by Steven Snyder Opens Friday January 11th, 2019   5-7 PM

The female face has been the principle subject matter of Santa Fe artist Steven Snyder’s work for the past four years. This show includes her most recent paintings using collaged material from vintage and current fashion magazines, and retro photographs that have been painted over. The work, which is sometimes dark and other times playful, focuses on the impact of both fashion and the use of makeup to define our perception of what constitutes feminine. This show is “very deep and personal for me,” said Snyder, “because makeup and fashion are my tools used to change the perception of my own male face and body, to female which is my transgender identity. In many of these paintings, Snyder uses bright colors to exaggerate and distort her images. Most of this work is mixed-media and many pieces are painted on found wood, which is Snyder’s favorite surface to paint on.

Photo Unrealism opens with a reception on Friday January 11h from 5-7 PM at 7 Arts Gallery located at 125 Lincoln Avenue. The show runs through January 31, 2019. More works by Steven Snyder can be seen at www.StevenSnyderArt.com

Color Fusion in Glass and Fiber Open Reception and Show

A FUSION OF COLOR

Rick Allen and Maria McGrane Glass Artists, Dayna Fisk Williams Fiber Artist
Opening Reception: November 30, 4-7 PM
7 Arts Gallery, 125 Lincoln, Suite 110, Santa Fe, NM
Show runs November 30 - December 30 2018

These artists, who show their art on a permanent basis at 7Arts Gallery, collaborate to create A Fusion of Color. “Although our artistic media appear very different, we all realized that what we share in common is a love of color and texture.” How many ways can weaving be represented in glass be echoed in fiber? “This Show gives us the opportunity to stretch the limits of our creativity. “

Rick and Maria have employed multiple advanced glass-making to create “woven” glass in a variety of pieces, including functional pieces and artistic abstract wall art. Dayna has incorporated brilliant panels of “glass” into her Rio Grande style rugs and wall hangings woven on a traditional “walking “ loom. In addition, her unique and stylish clothing, woven on a Japanese Saori loom echos the subtle shades in Rick and Maria’s glass creations.

Come join us to celebrate A Fusion of Color.

In addition to the opening reception the artist will be doing demos at the gallery during the month of December:
