Workshop with Karen Milstein, 'The Interface of Art and Mental Health. What We Contain, What Contains Us - How We Can Grow Ourselves'.

  • 125 Lincoln Avenue Santa Fe, NM, 87501 United States (map)

This workshop provides an opportunity to examine and work with the values, hopes, thoughts, feelings, and strengths which we hold inside. We can consider what we cherish and choose to hold onto, what we want to release, and how to do so. Also we can address the outside forces which impinge on us and the boundaries we choose to set against intrusive negativity, while welcoming supportive and nurturing influences.

The physical vessels or containers we gather around us can support our journeys, encouraging us on our paths. All attendees who wish, will have the opportunity to form a small clay vessel.

A brief presentation will be followed by guided discussion and exploration. Attendance is limited to 10 participants, so plan to register early.

Suggested donation of $50 is payable at time of registration. There is an early bird fee of $40 if received by Mon. Sept. 18.  Light refreshments included.

To register, please contact Karen Milstein, PhD, LISW, Psychotherapist, and Clay Artist at midbarnm@gmail.com or (505) 670-2906.

Opening Reception - Flora Fauna Frida

New paintings by photo-encaustic artist, Angel Wynn. Flora Fauna Frida opens with a reception on Friday September 29, from 5-7 PM.

With the universal wave of fascination for Frida Kahlo, Angel Wynn has created a new body of work that features this famous uni-brow woman. The series includes images of Kahlo, along with her collection of unusual pets, birds and her love of flowers. Wynn combines mixed media using photography, textiles, vintage papers and even cocktail napkins to create smaller works of collage. As an artist, Frida Kahlo was her own muse, as portrayed in most of her paintings. She may have been one of the first big time selfie users! Wynn's new series screams intensity, femininity and all the things that brought great joy to Frida throughout her painful adult life.

"Walking through Frida's garden exhibit at the Tucson Botanical gardens last winter," said Wynn, "like many others I too was under the spell of fascination with this bizarre woman." Wynn takes full advantage to have her new show open while the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art continues to display their photography exhibit of Frida Kahlo.

The show runs through to October 23, 2017.

'Painting from Life: Recent Works', is a solo show by local fine art painter Cecilia Robertson, with 2 opening receptions: Friday, September 1, 2017 from 5-7 pm and Saturday, September 2, 2017 from 3- 5 pm. Cecilia will be present for both receptions.

Cecilia Robertson works to understand the vital/healing relationship between nature and earth’s inhabitants. Her paintings seek to honor the role that nature plays in preserving our health and well-being and to convey the restorative capacities of natural beauty. “Direct experiences of painting on location offer a chance to convey the uniqueness of the moment, a record of an intimate encounter”, says Robertson.

“Painting from Life: Recent Works” will exhibit the artist’s plein air and studio landscape paintings of New Mexico and the American Southwest.

Show runs through September 27, 2017.
