New paintings by photo-encaustic artist, Angel Wynn. Flora Fauna Frida opens with a reception on Friday September 29, from 5-7 PM.
With the universal wave of fascination for Frida Kahlo, Angel Wynn has created a new body of work that features this famous uni-brow woman. The series includes images of Kahlo, along with her collection of unusual pets, birds and her love of flowers. Wynn combines mixed media using photography, textiles, vintage papers and even cocktail napkins to create smaller works of collage. As an artist, Frida Kahlo was her own muse, as portrayed in most of her paintings. She may have been one of the first big time selfie users! Wynn's new series screams intensity, femininity and all the things that brought great joy to Frida throughout her painful adult life.
"Walking through Frida's garden exhibit at the Tucson Botanical gardens last winter," said Wynn, "like many others I too was under the spell of fascination with this bizarre woman." Wynn takes full advantage to have her new show open while the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art continues to display their photography exhibit of Frida Kahlo.
The show runs through to October 23, 2017.
